A Lament

You were big and rowdy

You could be gentle too

You were mine for such a short time

I miss you still, I do

I left all of your things behind

I don't need them anymore

Never did find out who poisoned you

Well, that's passed for sure.

You were playful and always there

Ever ready to go for a walk

You were never too tired

To listen to me when I'd talk.

Then my friend you got so sick

I didn't know what I could do

So I cleaned up after you and tried

To help you see it through.

You were so healthy then one day

You became so ill so fast

I called every vet that I could find

It just wasn't to last.

The only thing I did find out

Was anti freeze you'd gotten

I still find it hard to believe

A person could be so rotten.
