Ruth Philomena Fowler Carr

My Mom

Mom, you married oh, so young

Had six children in ten years

I understand now you weren't ready

No wonder you cried a river of tears.

Still mama we were the victims

We were made to pay

For the mistake the two of you made

Each and every day.

You and dad both had the booze

To drown your sorrows in

We were left to feel the guilt

That you instilled back then.

I kept my word not to drink

I made my own mistakes

No matter how hard I tried

The past I couldn't shake

Now Jesus changed all that

He has washed me clean

Now the past has lost it's edge

Tomorrow remains to be seen.

I love you mom I'm glad to say

You gave me fond memories too

These I tried to give my children

With my grandchildren I still do.
